  • Overview

    Kennedy Valve Co. is a gray and ductile iron foundry and computerized machining and assembly operation. We supply fire hydrants and valves to the water works and fire suppression industries. We have been manufacturing these products in Elmira, New York, for over 125 years.

     

    SUMMARY

    The Quality Control Technician is responsible for the material handling and preparation for routine testing and for maintenance of assigned laboratory equipment as well as testing products and materials to ensure compliance and/or to develop new methods. As a quality control technician, (s)he will assist in verifying the quality of the product going into our manufacturing process and the final product coming off the production line. This position works directly with manufacturing on the production floor. Quality control technicians are responsible for bringing quality issues and/or concerns to the attention of the quality control department and management and to provide quality improvement initiatives and recommendations for improvement. This position is to assure the use of daily line audits that production procedures and systems are being followed and that quality standards are being met.

    Responsibilities

    JOB DUTIES

    • Ensure proper gauge maintenance including gauge ID, location and certification
    • Perform sample checks in each cell as required
    • Ensure that parts being produced are in conformance and are of desired quality
    • Promptly communicate non-conformances or quality issues
    • Keep the log of quality checks performed by cell, part number, and time
    • Initiate quality problem report and document corrective actions in timely manner
    • Monitor, track, and improve MRA activity
    • Conformance to Quality Management Systems (QMS) and standards

    Qualifications

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • Associate degree or QA certification preferred; Minimum High School Diploma
    • Two (2) years’ experience in inspection and quality
    • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings
    • Ability to use gauges and measurement devices effectively
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software- Excel, Word, Outlook

     

    ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • GDT training/experience
    • Knowledge of QC tools such as SPC, problem solving
    • Gauge R&R experience
    • Understanding of Quality Management Systems
    • Experience/understanding of fundamentals of assigned areas
